What kind of coatings does Pro-Tek apply?

Pro-Tek applies a wide variety of coatings such as Fluoropolymer, Xylan®, Xylar®, Halar®, Silverstone, Nylon, Elastomers, Protekote, Scotchkote®, PTFE, FEP, PFA, ETFE, Polyesters, Powders, and Liquids.

 

What materials can Pro-Tek apply their coatings to?

Our coatings can be applied to all sorts of substrates, aluminum, stainless steel, hot/cold rolled steels, magnesium, ceramic, glass, or any other materials that can withstand temperatures upwards of 350°F.

 

If nothing sticks to a Fluoropolymer, then how does aFluoropolymer stick to a substrate?

These coatings are applied in layers just like paint. The first layer is a primer, which contains special chemistry that enables it to adhere to the substrate. Grit blasting is used to prepare the substrate surface to allow for the best possible adhesion of the primer.

 

Are non-stick coatings sold in spray can form?

No, due to the complexity of the application procedures of these coatings, they are not available in spray can form.

 

What is the chemistry of Fluoropolymer?

The original form of Fluoropolymer is polytetrafluoroethylene, or PTFE. The molecular structure of Fluoropolymer is based on a chain of carbon atoms, the same as all polymers. Unlike some other fluoropolymers, in Fluoropolymer this chain is completely surrounded by fluorine atoms. The bond between carbon and fluorine is very strong, and the fluorine atoms shield the vulnerable carbon chain. This unusual structure gives Fluoropolymer its unique properties. Its this chemical that gives its unique slipperiness and chemical inertness.

 

Are non-stick coatings used only on cookware?

Non-stick coatings offer many different characteristics from high heat resistance, chemical stability, and excellent abrasion resistance to superior dry lubrication. Essentially think of frying pan characteristics and how they can be applied to your special situation.

 

In which markets are Pro-Tek's coatings used?

Our coatings have been used successfully in industries such as aerospace, military, agriculture, transportation, maintenance, lumber processing, chemical handling, food handling, ink handling, glue-adhesive handling, medical, and mining.

 

If asked, does Pro-Tek do work according to specs?

At Pro-Tek we are experienced at working with a vast array of specs and regulations, such as mil specs, FDA, Agriculture Canada and whatever drawing requirements you may have.

 

Does Pro-Tek recoat frying pans?

Although we are capable of recoating frying pans, it is more cost effective to the consumer to buy a new pan, rather than recoat.

 

What kind of volumes does Pro-Tek handle?

Pro-Tek will handle 1-offs up to production runs in the thousands.
